Underwater in Kansas: An Angler's Dream

Large natural concentrations of black crappie, white crappie, and bluegill with channel catfish and walleye captured on video in a Kansas reservoir.

See the video at https://youtu.be/2GMXXdcsj3g .

Crappie Fair up to 12-inch Look along breaks, points, and timbered coves.  Crappie have been caught in 15 to 20 feet of water but are beginning to come shallow with the warming water temperatures.
Channel catfish Fair up to 6 lbs Fishing livers and shad sides on windblown shallow shorelines
Black bass Slow   Few recent reports
White bass Fair   Look for white bass along the dam and also along shallow rocky points during warm parts of the day.
Wipers Fair up to 22-inches Look for shallow, warm water to find the wipers.  Casting jigs or bucktails on warm windy days is a good springtime wiper technique.
Walleye Fair up to 25-inch

The walleye spawn is nearly over, but there are still a few stragglers, mainly males, hanging around the spawning banks.  Walleye will be a little tough to find as they transition from the spawn.  In a couple weeks walleye activity will again increase and fish will be able to be found on shallow flats on the north side of the lake and along the points where a jig and crawler combo is effective.  Trolling is also a productive way to find active walleye.

Walleye Minimum length limit 18 inches.
