Fishing Report - Last Update: 4/10/2014

Species Rating Size Baits, Method, & Location
Channel catfish Good Up to 30" Fishing has picked up in shallow water.  The lake is an excellent spot for keeper-sized and the occasional trophy-sized channel catfish. Use dead shad on windblown shores during the fall and winter, especially during warm periods.
Crappie Fair 8-10" Crappie should be moving shallow, especially on nice days. The crappie population at McPherson SFL is generally pretty poor; however, several 14+" crappie were sampled last year.
Largemouth bass Fair Up to 5 lb. Fishing is picking up as the water warms. The population looks great, with the big fish of last year's sample weighing in at 7.1 lb.
Saugeye Fair 15-20" No reports. A few saugeye were sampled this fall. Most saugeye are caught by bass anglers. Saugeye seem to like the corners of the dam.
