Geocaching

This year the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks, & Tourism is sponsoring the 4th annual Geocaching Contest.

Participant Guidelines

  1. Kansas Wildlife, Parks & Tourism (KDWPT) 2011 Statewide Geocaching contest has 31 official participating locations that will each have two geocaches. They will be marked First Geocache and Second Geocache. (Any other caches are not part of the statewide contest.)
  2. The coordinates of first cache site for each official location will be posted on the KDWPT Geocache website. Only after a cacher finds and opens the first cache, and signs and dates the log sheet, will they be able to find the coordinates of the second cache site.
  3. Upon finding and opening the second cache site, the participant will sign and date a log sheet and take a cache site certificate (proof of finding cache). The participant must retain the certificate and attach to the official statewide KDWPT Geocaching entry form. Entry forms, with all certificates attached, must be mailed to ATTN: GeoCache, KDWPT Pratt Office, 512 SE 25th Ave, Pratt, KS 67124, by November 1, 2011 to be eligible for prizes. If the participant shows the certificate at that location’s office, they will receive a location site-specific “I found the Geocache” ink pen.
PLEASE DO NOT give anyone the coordinates of any second geocache, in order to keep the contest fair.
  4. Geocachers can mail in their completed and validated forms anytime during the contest, but final deadline is November 1, 2011. All forms must be mailed or delivered to ATTN: 2011 Geocache, KDWPT Pratt Office, 512 SE 25th Ave, Pratt, KS 67124, and received by deadline date to qualify for statewide contest prizes. Each cacher must provide a valid Kansas State Park motor vehicle number, in the name of the cacher, to be eligible for prizes.
  5. Prizes will be limited to ONE WINNER PER HOUSEHOLD.
  6. One First Place Prize will be awarded to the first geocacher who earns ALL OF THE 31 POINTS and who gets the forms, including each second cache certificate, to the Pratt office. The first-place prize is a 2012 annual camping permit.
  7. One Second and One Third Place Prize will be awarded to the next two Geocachers to earn ALL OF THE 31 POINTS and who get their forms, including each second cache certificate, to the Pratt office. The second and third place prizes are 2012 14-day camping permits.
  8. All other geocachers who earn ALL OF THE 31 POINTS and who get their forms, including each second cache certificate, to the Pratt office by November 1, 2011, will receive a 2012 annual vehicle permit.
Final deadline is November 1, 2011. GOOD LUCK!!
