ELLSWORTH OUTDOOR YOUTH FESTIVAL AUG. 27

August 25
Shotgun, archery shooting and fishing opportunities highlight event
ELLSWORTH — On Aug. 27 from 9 a.m. to noon, youth 17 and younger accompanied by adults 18 or older are invited to a free day of target shooting and outdoor activities sponsored by the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism (KDWPT), the K-State Research and Extension, the Kansas Army National Guard, and the Smoky Hill River Pheasants Forever. Called the Ellsworth Youth Outdoor Festival, the event will be held at the Ellsworth Gun Club, 3 miles west of Ellsworth on Hwy 40 and 1 mile north on 13th Road.

All targets, shooting materials, and equipment will be supplied for the event. Trap, archery, paintball, and computerized laser shot targets will be offered. A free fishing clinic in conjunction with the outdoor event will be held at a nearby pond.

This is an excellent opportunity to introduce youth to the world of shooting sports, hunting, and fishing. Hunter education certification is not required, but youth participants must be accompanied by an adult. Volunteers specializing in their field of shooting will closely supervise youth at each shooting station. Registration for the event will be completed on site.

In addition to the free shooting and fishing opportunities, a youth shotgun will be given away to one registered youth, and a bronze Pheasants Forever sculpture will be given to a mentor.
