WILDLIFE & PARKS COMMISSION TO MEET MARCH 12 IN TOPEKA

Public invited to all sessions of meeting at Dillon House, 404 SW 9th

The Kansas Wildlife and Parks Commission invites all interested persons to attend a commission meeting on Thursday, March 12, at the Dillon House, 404 SW 9th in Topeka.

The afternoon session will begin at 2 p.m. Discussion topics in the afternoon session will include the following:

  • a report on department-related action in the 2009 Kansas Legislature;
  • an overview of a GPS video tour guide at Cheyenne Bottoms Wildlife Area;
  • discussion of the state’s prairie dog management plan and reintroduction of black-footed ferrets by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service;
  • a review of laws and regulations pertaining to coyote hunting; and
  • discussion of furbearer regulations.

The afternoon session will also include workshop session discussion, in preparation for future potential regulatory action, of the following KDWP regulations:

  • fish and wildlife license and permit fees;
  • proposed 2009 antelope seasons, limits, and permits;
  • proposed 2009 elk seasons, limits, and permits;
  • changes under consideration for selected KDWP properties in the public lands regulations reference document; and
  • changes recommended, after committee review and public comment, in the state’s listing of threatened and endangered species.

The commission will recess at 5 p.m., then reconvene at 7 p.m. at the same location for the evening session. The evening session will begin with discussion of the agency’s and state’s fiscal status, an overview of the department’s Archery in the Schools program, and presentation of the Private Lands Statewide Habitat Award.

The evening session will conclude with workshop session discussion of the following regulations:

  • KAR 115-25-9 and KAR 115-25-9a (deer open season, limits, permits, and other considerations); and
  • KAR 115-4-11 (big game permit applications).

No public hearing topics are scheduled for this meeting. If necessary, the commission will recess on March 12, to reconvene March 13 at 9 a.m. in the same location to complete its business. Time will be set aside in all sessions for public comment on topics which are not on the agenda.
