FURHARVESTER EDUCATION CLASS SCHEDULED FOR OCTOBER 20-21 IN OLPE

Course required of anyone born on or after July 1, 1966
EMPORIA -- The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks and the Kansas Fur Harvesters Association will sponsor a Furharvester Education Class on Saturday, Oct. 20, and Sunday, Oct. 21 at the American Legion Hall in Olpe (6 miles south of Emporia). The event will run from 9 a.m. to 5p.m. on Saturday and from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. There will be no charge for the class.

All interested persons should bring a sack lunch and meet at the American Legion Hall at 8:45 a.m. on Saturday for registration.

Furharvester education is a mandatory course required of all persons born on or after July 1, 1966, who wish to trap, hunt, or pursue furbearing animals. Trappers in this age group must obtain a furharvester education card before buying a furharvester license.

Adults are welcome and encouraged to attend with students. A minimum age of 11 is preferred. Topics will include modern trapping techniques for raccoon, bobcat, coyote, beaver, and other furbearers; furbearer hunting; fur handling; ethics; and laws and regulations. Saturday will include a classroom session followed by a field session. Sunday will include a brief classroom session and review followed by testing.
