2012 Dove Fields and Maps
Now that we are approaching the 3rd week of dove season, and we've had a few cold fronts come through, bird usage of our sunflower fields has certainly dropped off. While limits may be very difficult to come by, all of the fields should still offer some harvest opportunities for a while longer.
With the incredibly hot and dry summer we had, sunflowers were one of the few crops we had on the WA that did OK for the most part! That being said, there is a lot of variability in quality between and within our different sunflower fields. One field did not germinate well, and other spots suffered from weed competition. GENERAL conditions and prospects are noted under each field. There are no guarantees, and each field is capable of producing quality hunting.
Our first rounds of mowing on sunflower fields and burning wheat stubble were completed during the week of August 13th. Management efforts will continue up to the start of the season.
