Region 3

This is a collection of all the Region 3 Waterfowl Report

CHEYENNE BOTTOMS - Last Updated: 2/26/2015

Waterfowl numbers  Duck and goose numbers have decreased a little with the return of cold weather. We estimate between 90,000 to 180,000 total ducks, mostly mallards and pintails.  We estimate goose numbers to be between 80,000 and 170,000 with the majority snow geese. Goose numbers vary greatly between days and even during the day.  Temperature fluctuations in the forecast will likely cause bird numbers to fluctuate as well.
Water level Pools 1A is about 18 inches, 1B and 1C each are at 24 inches. Pool 2 is near 17 inches, Pools 3A is about 12.5 inches, 3B is about 15, 4A is near 16 inches, and Pool 4B is about 17 inches and Pool 5 is about 11 inches.
Hunting conditions The forecast is for temperatures to cool down through the weekend and on into mid-week.  We are currently 85% ice covered with temperatures forecast to barely make it above freezing from now to Wednesday we will likely remain frozen.
Expected hunting success Light goose conservation order hunters have been very few. Hunter success low.
Comments

Hunting pools will eventually be held from 15 to 18 inches. Pool 3A will be a primitive pool (no motorized watercraft) for the entire waterfowl season and kept at shallower depths.  Hunters are encouraged to use the electronic Daily Hunt Permit system being introduced this year.  This will eventually replace the paper permits.
