Species

Rating

Size

Baits, Method, & Location

Channel catfish

Good

Up to 30"

Livers, stinkbait, and shrimp are good baits. Fish off the jetties and near any rocky or woody structure. Fall netting indicates that 2012 will be another tremendous year for catfishing at McPherson SFL.

Creel limit is 2 catfish per day and a 15" length limit.

Crappie

Fair

8-10"

Use small jigs and minnows around brush or rocks. A few bigger crappie were sampled this fall. The crappie fishing this spring should be a little better than in past years.

Largemouth bass

Good

Up to 5 lb.

Fish artificial baits slowly around cover. McPherson SFL should again be one of the top bass lakes in the state in 2012,

Saugeye

Fair

15"

A few saugeye were sampled this fall in gill nets. There probably isn't high enough densities to target quite yet, but anglers should be aware that a few have survived stocking and may be caught.
