Marais des Cygnes Waterfowl Report

Waterfowl numbers Oct 23 = 2,500 ducks, mostly teal, wood ducks, and early migrants.   Some increase this week, but numbers still very low.

Water levels All units have good water levels for early in the season with a few notable exceptions:  Unit C-South = corn has been cut and water delivery started today; Unit G = some water, but very shallow (pump is down, but should be back in next week); Small Wetland #22 (E 1700 Rd & Trego) = dry.
Hunting/ Habitat conditions Good.
Hunting success Teal season total:  389 teal / 209 hunters = 1.9 success.

Marais des CygnesWildlife Area is in the Southeast Zone - opening day is November 8.  Waterfowl hunters must register before hunting and report harvest after the hunt (KAR 115-8-1). Notice: You must fill out reports completely and accurately. False reports will be prosecuted.

There is construction work along the river side of Unit G – for your safety, please stay away from the construction area.

Outboard motors are restricted on this wildlife area and are allowed in Unit G and in the boat lane only in Unit A-East. Outboards are not allowed in any other wetland units. Electric trolling motors are unrestricted. Boats must be operated at wakeless speed.
