RANGE SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP CUTOFF DATE EXTENDED
Conservation school application deadline extended to Aug. 6 for western school
MCPHERSON -- Principles of Rangeland Management: Grass and Animal Ecology in Kansas is a three-day school directed at ranchers, land managers, and others interested in knowing more about this vital natural resource. Conducted by the Kansas Grazing Lands Coalition, Inc. (KGLC), the school is directed at two areas of the state -- the arid west and the much wetter eastern portion of the state.
The west school will be held Tuesday, Aug. 19, through Thursday, Aug. 21, at Camp Aldrich, near Claflin. Space is still available for the west school, according to Tim Christian, state coordinator for KGLC.
“We've had a great response to our range schools set for this August," Christian says. "The east school has filled up, but we still have room for several more interested people in the west school.”
Regular price for the school's tuition is $250, but KGLC is offering scholarships of $150. The extended cutoff for west school scholarship applications is Aug. 6. Forms are available at www.kglc.org or by phone at 620-241-3636.
Featured speakers at the west school are Ted Alexander, rancher, Sun City; Jeff Hansen, Kansas Native Plant Society, Topeka; Virgil Huseman, rancher, Ellsworth; and Jeff Davidson, rancher, Eureka.
"We have a wonderful set of speakers, and the facilities at Aldrich should suit our students and training quite well," says Christian. "Our alumni agree that this three-day course is great fun, a good place to network, and packed with useful information."
The schools are co-sponsored by the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, the KSU Extension Service, the Kansas State Conservation Commission, and the Playa Lakes Joint Venture.
Organized in 1991, KGLC is a non-profit organization with a vision to regenerate Kansas grazing lands.
