WOMEN WANTED FOR APRIL 22ND TURKEY HUNT AT COUNCIL GROVE

Space still available for women-only hunt

COUNCIL GROVE -- In preparation for spring turkey season, hunters are breaking out turkey calls and other gear. However, many Kansans have never experienced the thrill of hunting spring gobblers. To introduce the uninitiated to spring turkey hunting, the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks -- in cooperation with area chapters of the National Wild Turkey Federation, Quail Unlimited, Ducks Unlimited, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers -- will conduct the Council Grove 6th Annual Spring Turkey Hunt on April 22.
This is an event for women hunters only and is designed to pair women with volunteer guides. Spring turkey season is one of the best times to introduce a beginner to hunting; the season combines pleasant weather with an explosion of spring wildlife activity.

This hunt will be held in the scenic Flint Hills near historic Council Grove. Participating hunters will be guided to area locations on public and private land. Program volunteers will arrange transportation to hunting sites and will assist in the hunt.
The event will also include door prizes, a turkey hunting presentation, and a hunter's breakfast and lunch. Pre-registration is required. For more information, phone Brent Konen, Council Grove Wildlife Area manager, at 620-767-5900.
