TUTTLE CREEK CELEBRATES FREE PARK DAYS AUG. 20-21

Two-day event will feature everything from boat shows to minnow races

MANHATTAN -- On Aug. 20-21, Tuttle Creek State Park will conduct its annual Free Park Entrance Days to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (KDWP) and the 50th anniversary of the state park system. The day is loaded with events of interest to every age group, and daily vehicle entrance is free. (Overnight camping permits are still required.)
This weekend of free fun and entertainment includes the following:
Saturday, Aug. 20

  • 10 a.m.-5 p.m. -- Boat Show at Spillway Area, RV Show at River Pond Area;
  • 1 p.m.-3 p.m. -- basic canoeing and kayaking instruction at the River Pond dock;
  • 2 p.m. -- minnow races at Man-Kan Shelter;
  • 3 p.m.-5 p.m. -- archery, BB gun shooting and fly fishing instruction across from the canoe shop;
  • 4 p.m.- 7 p.m. -- antique car show around Man-Kan Shelter;
  • 6:30 p.m. -- potluck dinner for registered campers and participants at Man-Kan Shelter;
  • 8 p.m.-10 p.m. -- 1950s & 1960s dance at Man-Kan Shelter; and
  • All Day -- Fancy Creek Shooting Range open.

Sunday, Aug. 21

  • 9 a.m. -- non-denominational worship service at Fleming Shelter, Kaw River canoe float trip from Highway 24 to St. George ($20 registration);
  • 11 a.m. -- mud volleyball tournament with park staff;
  • 1 p.m. -- guided hike of Spillway Canyon (meet at park office);
  • 1 p.m.-3 p.m. -- clay target shooting at Fancy Creek Range; and
  • 2 p.m.-4 p.m. -- sand castle contest and Green Submarine Hunt at swimming beach.
