2012 Dove Hunting at Brzon WA

Sunflowers were planted on a 14 acre field and portions will be mowed. One 8 acre field of wheat stubble will be mowed or burned prior to the season opener. Several, small ponds in the middle of the area also attract doves.

The entire area will be open to Youth / Mentor / Novice hunters ONLY for the first 2 days of the season (September 1 & 2). The area will be open to all hunters on Sept. 3 and through September 30.

Mandatory Hunter Survey Cards will be required during the first 3 days of the Dove hunting Season and will be available at the Information Center.

Scouting prior to the season is always encouraged. Doves may not congregate on the prepared fields and doves are notorious for leaving the area at the first touch of cold weather.

A MAP OF THE FIELDS IS AVAILABLE: To view the fields in Google Earth click on the link below. Google earth will open and the field map will be in the temporary places. Check the box so the outline of the field will appear.

Because Hunter Education classes are sometimes not regularly scheduled and often difficult to work into already busy schedules, the State of Kansas has made it easier to begin hunting even without taking the class. In recent years, Kansas has passed laws so that persons 15 and younger may hunt without hunter education as long as they are directly supervised by an adult 18 or older. Again this year Kansas allows anyone 16 years and older who has not passed a hunter ed class to purchase a one-time "apprentice hunting license" which allows them to hunt while accompanied by a licensed adult 18 or older. The apprentice license is good for the calendar year.

Remember before heading to the field to purchase your HIP stamp and plug those shotguns so they are capable of holding no more than 3 shells.
