The Marais des Cygnes River, from the north end of Unit G to stateline is open to paddlefish snagging. The season starts March 15 to May 15.

The Marais des Cygnes Wildlife Area supports many lakes. These waterfowl mangement lakes are open to fishing on April 15. Many pools support good angling when they are draining. During draining some pools are open to public fish salvage. Call the Wildlife Area Office at 913-352-8941 for more information.

General Comments

Paddlefish season starts March 15 to May 15, therer is a 34 inch length limit, a paddlefish permit is $12.50 including 6 carcass tags.  See your fishing regulations for aditional information.  The marais des cygnes river from the north bundary of Unit G to stateline bridge is open to paddlefish snagging.  Non sport fish (carp, drum,grass carp,gar, buffalo,gizzard shad) may be snagged and kept during this season.  There are no limits on non sport fish.

The river and streams on the state wildlife area are open to fishing. The river is a great place to float and fish. Some of the wildlife area pools are draining. Access to the river is at the Marais des Cygnes Wildlife Area and along stateline road bridge. For additional opportunities call 913-352-8941 for accurate information on wildlife pool drainage.
