NEWS FOR BOATERS:
Zebra mussels are in Kanapolis Reservoir, Melvern Reservoir, Council Grove Reservoir, Council Grove City Lake, Jeffrey Energy Make-Up, and Auxillary Lakes, John Redmond Reservoir, Milford Reservoir, Wilson Reservoir, Marion Reservoir, Perry Reservoir, Cheney Reservoir, El Dorado Reservoir, Winfield City Lake, Lake Afton, and the rivers that flow from these impoundments. Boaters using these waters MUST drain and clean their equipment before launching in a new waterbody. Do not take lakewater with you-young zebra mussels are nearly invisible and free-float in the water. Click here for map of Kansas waters with zebra mussels.
Simple steps to follow; CLEAN, DRAIN, DRY every time, every lake:
Before Leaving:
CLEAN: Inspect boat and other equipment for attached zebra mussels and Remove any that are found.
DRAIN all water (livewells, bilge, bait buckets, etc.) before leaving the area.
Before using again:
Wash equipment with hot water (140-degree recommended) or Dry equipment for 5 days. Click here for more information about zebra mussels.
Remember: It is illegal to import, possess, or release zebra mussels.
