Jamestown Wildlife Area Waterfowl Report
|Waterfowl numbers||6,000 snow geese observed on 3/2/2015, 2,000 ducks, mostly Pintails and 1,000 dark geese.|

All marshes are frozen.
Gamekeeper marsh is one foot low, Gun Club Marsh is around 75% full with an average depth of 18-30 inches (similar to the water conditions in 2012). Managers are finished with pumping off storage pools along marsh creek. Marsh Creek Marsh is around 50% full, Bluewing Marsh, Puddler and Ringneck marshes are dry. Managers are finished pumping Buffalo Creek Marshes. Buffalo Creek South Marsh has excellent habitat and water with maximum depths at 14-18 inches outside of the main canal. Buffalo Creek North Marsh has an average depth of 12-24 inches of water.
Snow Geese are utilizing the area for roosting and loafing throughout the day. They are feeding on local ag fields. THE LPEZ DUCK SEASON IS CLOSED

Poor. With the ice conditions and varying weather, the light geese numbers are fluctuating greatly from day to day. The forecast looks good for an increase in snow goose numbers.
Light geese numbers fluctuate day to day and are feeding on local ag fields throughout the area. REMINDER - Hunters must have permission to hunt or shoot on ALL private land. This includes properties that are enrolled in WIHA that closed on Jan. 31.

- BOATING WILL BE DIFFICULT IN GAMEKEEPER MARSH SINCE IT IS OVER ONE FOOT LOW. EVEN HUNTERS WITH MUD MOTORS WILL HAVE DIFFICULTY NAVIGATING IN THIS MARSH

PAPER PERMITS WILL STILL BE AVAILABLE AT THE INFORMATION CENTERS
Hunters need to make sure they have all the appropriate licenses and stamps for hunting waterfowl. The following are required:
- 2015 Kansas hunting license
- State waterfowl stamp
- Federal waterfowl stamp
- Kansas Harvest Information Program Stamp (HIP)
PUDDLER AND RINGNECK MARSHES ARE DESIGNATED FOR YOUTH AND MENTORS ONLY. EACH HUNTER 16 YEARS AND OLDER MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY ONE OR MORE YOUTH UNDER 16 YEARS OLD.
Marsh Creek Marsh is for non-gasoline powered boats only, this includes electric motor boats and boats with no motors. Gasoline engines are prohibited.

THE REFUGE IS CLOSED FROM OCTOBER 1 TO JANUARY 31 on the north half of Gamekeeper Marsh.
