This is a collection of all the Region 3 Waterfowl Report
CHEYENNE BOTTOMS - Last Updated: 1/26/2015
|Waterfowl numbers||Duck and goose numbers have increased a bit with the very mild temperatures. We estimate between 10,000 to 20,000 total ducks, mostly mallards. We estimate goose numbers to be between 5,000 and 20,000.|
|Water level||Pools 1A is about 18 inches, 1B and 1C each are at 24 inches. Pool 2 is near 17 inches, Pools 3A is about 12.5 inches, 3B is about 16, 4A is near 17 inches, and Pool 4B is about 17.5 inches and Pool 5 is about 12 inches.|
|Hunting conditions||The forecast is for temperatures to continue the moderate pattern through mid-week, with a bit of a cool down through the weekend. The wind and warm temps have melted all the ice.|
|Expected hunting success||Pheasant hunter success remains below 1 bird per hunter. Goose hunter numbers have been low, but success seems to be less than 1 bird per hunt.|
Hunting pools will eventually be held from 15 to 18 inches. Pool 3A will be a primitive pool (no motorized watercraft) for the entire waterfowl season and kept at shallower depths. Hunters are encouraged to use the electronic Daily Hunt Permit system being introduced this year. This will eventually replace the paper permits.
The refuge portion of Pools 2 and 5 opened for pheasant hunting on Wednesday, Jan. 21. It will remain open through the end of the season, Jan 31. Hunters in Pool 5 need to remain outside, or south, of the fireguard. Contact Area office for specific questions on boundaries.
