Avian Influenza (Bird Flu) Information
Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks & Tourism participated in the national avian influenza surveillance effort. The goal of the program was to detect the Asian Bird Flu early if the virus found its way into the Americas. The chances of encountering the virus in wild birds in the U.S. remains extremely low at this time.
Federal funding has been terminated for HPAI surveillance in Kansas. KDWPT will be ready to resume surveillance, if funding becomes available again. KDWPT wishes to thank all of those hunters and individuals who contributed to years of successful HPAI surveillance in Kansas.
